| History: St. Dominic School opened its doors to 120 students in grades one through four on September 3, 1952; the dedication was held on September 8, 1952. The Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan, were the first teachers here. In 1958, construction was completed on a new school wing containing the cafeteria and gym. The most recent renovation was completed in November 2004. | |
| General Information: Currently, St. Dominic School has 213 students enrolled in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Capacity enrollment is 245 students (170 families). Several public school districts provide bus transportation for our students. We provide a before school program for pre-kindergarten and an after school program until 6:00 p.m. for students in grades kindergarten through eight. A hot lunch program is also available at reasonable prices. Because this program is not run through the Diocese of Cleveland, there is no option for free and reduced cost lunches. Uniforms are required of students in grades 1 through 8. The student/teacher ration is 24:1 (12:1 for preschool). The school day is 8:00 am until 2:30 pm (8:00 a.m. – 11:45 am Monday through Thursday for pre-kindergarten). Financial aid is available for parish families. | |

Curriculum/Faculty: Our strong academic programs, taught by dynamic teachers and administered by an enthusiastic faculty, follow the Ohio Department of Education Standards as well as the Graded Course of Studies for the Diocese of Cleveland. Students are given instruction in core curriculum classes, including Religion, as well as what we call “Specials” – Art, General Music, Band (beginning in fourth grade), Computers, Physical Education, Spanish, and Library Skills. All of our teachers are certified by the State of Ohio, except for the Spanish teachers in grades K-6 because Spanish is considered an enrichment subject in those grades. Students who take Spanish in grades 7 and 8 are being prepared to test out of Spanish level 1 when they get to high school. Tutoring is available in reading and math. Additionally, junior high teachers are available after school for extra help in the core courses. Currently, Smartboard technology is being integrated into our classrooms. |

| Practicing Catholic Beliefs: Catholic beliefs are infused throughout our entire educational program to foster growth in personal faith, values and service. We celebrate an all-school Mass on Friday mornings at 8:30 and families are welcome to attend. Those students who are not Catholic are expected to be respectful during Mass, and to participate at whatever level is comfortable for them. Non-catholic students also take religion class and participate in grade-level retreats. “Prayer Partners” provide all students with an opportunity to share experiences. | |
| Other Activities: Enrichment programs, educational field trips and assemblies add to our students’ educational experience. Student activities provide opportunities to explore God-given talents, take leadership roles and build life-long friendships. These include: altar servers, cross bearers, Boy and Girl Scouts, math competitions, CYO Athletics, Power of the Pen, Student Newspaper, Science Fair, Peer Tutoring, and Field Day. The Bulldog Club supports student athletics for those enrolled at St. Dominic School or in the parish PSR program. | |
| Parent Involvement: Our Family Education Association (FEA), the school’s parent organization, provides significant teacher support, builds community involvement, and raises necessary funds to enhance educational programs. Parent and other volunteers play a key role in supporting the educational experiences of St Dominic students. | |
