Academic Highlights

  • Our academic programs follow the Diocesan standards, which align with – and often exceed – the standards for the State of Ohio and are on par with the most highly regarded private schools in Cleveland.
  • Smartboards and computers are integrated into every classroom and available in the computer lab.
  • Dynamic, state-certified teachers instruct each grade and subject, dedicated to providing the most current methods of learning available.
  • A small student body allows for teachers to work with the students for successive years, resulting in stronger learning relationships and less time spent on re-evaluation.
  • Advanced math curriculum; most students test out of 1st year High School Algebra.
  • We are one of the few schools in the area to offer Spanish and Computer to students every year from K through 8.
  • Spanish language is taught by three instructors, each focused on a different age group. Curriculum reaches high school levels by 7th-8th grade.
  • Leadership – at academic, moral, athletic and community level – is emphasized in every grade.
  • An innovative LEAD (Leadership in Education and Development) program is a standard part of the curriculum in Grades 7 and 8. Developed in partnership with Effective Leadership Academy, it incorporates dynamic hands on corporate style leadership education.

Spiritual & Community Leadership

At St. Dominic School, we teach more than academics -- we teach values. Qualities like honesty, respect, compassion and faith. Qualities that help bright, educated individuals become persuasive, charismatic leaders.

In addition to the value lessons that are woven into daily curriculum, a variety of opportunities are available that allow students to work on community leadership and spiritual growth.

  • LEAD - An innovative Leadership in Education and Development (LEAD) program is a standard part of the curriculum in Grades 7 and 8.
  • Community Service Opportunities - A variety of family service opportunities are available to expose young people to those less fortunate and encourage giving back to our community. Children also are encouraged to research and organize their own service projects and, once approved, receive implementation support from the school.

  • Prayer Partners - An innovative program creating 1-on-1 partnerships between children from younger grades with children from the older classes, this program is immensely popular at SDS. Junior high students learn how to guide and assist young children, while the little ones gain confidence approaching their elder schoolmates. The result is a united, close-knit student body, where all ages of children know each other and interact happily.
  • Student Ambassadors - A dynamic program in which students in grades 7 and 8 can learn to be SDS school guides for newcomers.

  • Annual Class Spiritual Retreats - Every year, each class spends a special retreat day together. Organized around a spiritual theme, the day allows students to step back and view their own actions through the eyes of others, and to work on ways to be better friends, students, and leaders.

  • Connections: Creating a Caring Community - A special early leadership program for 3rd and 4th graders, lessons focus on topics such as ‘The Power of Being Nice’ and ‘Being a Good Friend.’

  • Peer Tutoring Opportunities

  •  Weekly school Mass & All-School Prayer Services

  •  Altar Servers & Cross Bearers

Creative Highlights
Both in visual and performing arts, students at St. Dominic School are encouraged to create, explore, gain confidence and become leaders. Following are some of our most popular offerings.

  • St. Patrick’s Day Show - A time-honored St. Dominic tradition for over 50 years, the annual St. Patrick’s Day show is a musical performance involving the entire school. Much loved by students, parents and alumni alike, it gives children the opportunity to perform as part of a team and gain confidence in front of a large audience.
  • Award-winning concert band and chamber ensembles - Students are given the opportunity to join band starting in Grade 4. Our instrumental music instructor teaches students from the ground up, starting with how to hold their chosen instrument, to how to read music, and how to play as part of an ensemble. As students progress, they compete individually, in small groups and as part of the SDS concert band, which averages 10-12 concert venues annually and is regularly honored with awards.

  • Private music lessons available during and after school - Onsite music lessons in piano, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments are available for reasonable rates from our highly reputable staff music instructors. Music instructors will work with classroom teachers to find an appropriate weekly time slot, or can instruct after school. Summer lessons are also available.

  • Desert Fire Drumming Group

  • Art Club

  • Fine Arts Week

  • Vocal Music, Grades K – 8
